Hi, I'm KIM. Host of Money And the Mattress Podcast.

Hi, I’m Kim Minert, the most unlikely person on the planet to host a podcast about money. Honestly, I didn’t even know the difference between the Buffets—Jimmy and Warren! But when I reflect on my journey, I realize I do have valuable insights to share.

Growing up, I wasn’t taught the intricacies of investing or even the importance of financial literacy. However, one lesson my dad instilled in me was to never get into debt—what great advice!

Along the way, I did acquire a home and a car, all because my accountant advised me that my taxes were killing me and I needed some write-offs. Thankfully, I paid off the car and drove it until it could barely go anymore. I eventually sold my condo and managed to live virtually debt-free despite a failed marriage and the challenges of raising my two daughters without child support.

I was born in Roundup, Montana, where the (mostly) deer, antelope and cattle roam. Growing up in the even smaller community of Ingomar (Google it!), I started school a year early so I could be with my friends who were a year older. My mom had taught me to read, so I was ready! With a class of six— the largest in the school—we embarked on our educational journey.

Later, we moved to the bigger city of Melstone, where I graduated with a class of 19—the largest class to graduate even to this day. Our class theme, “We are the Champions!” 😂

I share this background to build your belief that it doesn’t matter if you’re born into a family of opportunity (like having running water) or not; the opportunity to learn is available to all. I love this quote by Marie Forleo: “Everything is figureoutable.” It just takes a willingness to learn—not only from your own perspective but also from the perspectives of others. Ask questions, implement what you learn, and ask more questions. Truly listen.

When you do, you’ll uncover a wealth of tips on motivation, habits, and confidence. While these are important, I’ve always admired the advice that provides tangible tools for daily implementation. When you take action, you get results. If you consistently engage in positive actions and see good results, your habits will improve, and motivation and confidence will follow naturally.

A significant piece of the puzzle lies in finances. How can you thrive if you’re always running out of money? While money doesn’t guarantee happiness, it does offer choices. Without it, we struggle to care for ourselves, let alone contribute to others’ lives.

This understanding forms the foundation of the “Money and the Mattress Podcast,” as well as our Couples Coaching offering. We aim to help people make the most of their current finances and cultivate hope for a better future—in a fun way!
